It is unofficial since it's not made by the iPhone Dev-Team, who have released Yellowsn0w the famous unlocking iPhone software, but instead it is made by a Russian hacker. "They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and so perhaps we should be flattered that so many ad-supported sites are now using our own tools to create unofficial jailbreaks," says Dev-Team in their blog post.
It's not that those smart guys at Dev-Team is uncapable of releasing a new QuickPWN software for the latest beta software from Apple, but they simply doesn't want to play cat & mouse game with Apple during a beta period. What comes worst is that Apple might even tighten the screws, and the Dev-Team would burn methods just for a beta release. And that's not all, here's the biggest hurdle:
"THE MOST IMPORTANT THING ABOUT THE UNOFFICIAL QUICKPWN RELEASES IS THAT IF YOU USE THEM, YOU WILL KILL YELLOWSN0W, POSSIBLY FOREVER."
According to Dev-Team; the QuickPWN's very nature requires you to already have accepted Apple’s official IPSW, along with its baseband update. So for you who has "itchy-update-fingers", just restrain yourself a bit and show some dignity will ya? ;-p
