Live coverage from WWDC '08: the new iPhone unveiled!
Ladies and gentlemen, the drapes have been lifted; it's finally official and introduced: the new iPhone 3G! Ummm... wait a second there Steve. I'm a bit confuse here, cuz previously you've said "iPhone 2.0" at the opening of this WWDC '08 conference. You said it yourself, right? But now you call it as "iPhone 3G"??
So what should we call it then? Well, my best bet is that Steve doesn't want to start naming new iPhones with additional names or adding numbers. He probably simply wish there is only one mobile phone that "near and dear to his heart" (quoted) and the phone's name is: iPhone.
Hail and long live the king, iPhone!! ~LOL~
As you may have follow the live coverage either at Engadget or Gizmodo, both have posted the pictures of this new iPhone snapped right from the Steve's keynote speech. It's pretty much of what have been leaked before: glossy black colored back, little bit bulkier at the middle, thinner at the edges, but surprisingly there's no front camera for tele-conference using 3G network...
I've pulled-off the pictures taken from both of the aforementioned tech weblogs above and put them together, hope you enjoy seeing them --click on it to view it larger. And here's what Steve has said when he introduced it, courtesy from Engadget:
"We've learned so much with the first iPhone. We've taken everything we've learned and more and created the iPhone 3G. It's beautiful. This is what it looks like." Black back! "Thinner at the edges. Full plastic back, it's really nice."
"Solid metal buttons, the same gorgeous 3.5-inch display, camera"
"Flush headphone jack."
"Improved audio, it's really, really great... and it feels even better in your hand, if you can believe it."
Basically, the new iPhone has 5 advantages. I'll let Steve explain it himself:
"What are these next challenges? 3G." Huge applause.
"Second: enterprise support, third: third party apps, fourth: we need to sell it in more countries. We've sold iPhone in six countries so far, but believe me, they're in use ALL over the world." Hehe. "It's clear there is a demand."
"And last but not least -- everyone wants an iPhone, but we need to make it more affordable." Big applause.
How affordable you ask? Like what Sammy has posted here at PA, the new 8GB iPhone only costs $199 and the 16GB model will costs $299 only! Yowza! What a deal, if you ask me. I guess Apple is learning something from Palm's successful latest handset: the Centro. And I also believe that the new thickness on iPhone will feel just like Treo.
I could already see some of you are grabbing your coat and ready to head off to the nearest Apple store, but unfortunately you'll have to wait till June 11th to bring one of these babies home. Don't be greedy o'kay? Just grab one, no more. Leave the rest for others too. ;-p ~LOL~
UPDATE: Seeing from the new iPhone website that Sammy posted here, it's most likely that we'll be referring this new iPhone as: "iPhone 3G".
