Funny ad: Lost in Google, found in Yahoo?

I was just browsing endlessly last night, when suddenly a small ad located on the corner of a web page caught my attention...

The first image shown is a milk package with a picture of a man on it, and with these lines: "LOST. Last seen: Searching Google for music videos. -- Missing since breakfast."

In a few seconds after I saw the first image, I was wondering what could this ad be talking about? A new Google's on-line ad? But after the next image showed up with these lines, I got it: "Don't get lost in all the links. Try Yahoo! Search." ~LOL~

When Microsoft is fighting with Apple over the PC vs. Mac ads, it seems there's another small war took place between Yahoo and Google. They're fighting over what they do best; Microsoft/Apple is in the battle for best OS, while Yahoo/Google is fighting for the best search engine.

Who do you think will win? Personally, I don't care that much. But as long as they're fighting each others, it sure is fun to watch. Right? ;-p

Poor Jerry Yang, shame on Icahn & Microsoft

Big bullies sure don’t know if no means no, and they’ll never take no for an answer…

Wait, scratch that one above. It’s not like Yahoo Inc. entirely rejected Microsoft’s offer, it’s just that Yahoo is not agreeing yet with the money offered.

In rejecting the hostile takeover, Yahoo said it repeated its own offer to sell the entire company to Microsoft for at least $33 per share, and also offered to negotiate an improved transaction involving only Yahoo's search business. But Microsoft rejected both offers, Yahoo said with such a sad expression (figure of speech speaking ;-p).

To cut short and to avoid you snoring away from the boring news that you’ve read dozens of times on the net, I’ll go straight to the point of story behind that intriguing photo shots above. Carl Icahn, Microsoft’s new billionaire buddy in crime, blamed Yahoo's insistence that its current directors and Mr. Yang remain in place for the failure to reach a deal. "They kept talking about corporate governance," Mr. Icahn said, contending that Yahoo's board "is willing to watch the ship go down rather than sell the company." He added: "I delivered everything they wanted but at the end they still didn't want to do a deal."

So in the joint offer (between Microsoft & investor Carl Icahn)that’s made at last Friday night, the proposal envisioned that Microsoft would buy Yahoo's search business and let Mr. Icahn and his slate of directors control the rest of the company. The deal was conditioned on the removal of Yahoo Chief Executive Jerry Yang and its board.

Being the main target of the proxy wars, that’s why Jerry Yang was feeling sulky and depressed. Even though he was accompanied by Google co-founder Larry Page (left) & Sergey Brin (right), in Sun Valley for Allen & Co’s Mogul confab.

Later on, Yang was spotted at Sun Valley Inn in a meeting with former Time Warner’s CEO; Dick Parsons. Most probably he’s asking for advice on how to handle Icahn, and finish the deal with Microsoft.

Now, is it just me or did those Google wonder-boys are smiling at moping Yang? Poor Yang…

Yahoo wish to fight back into email competition with "ymail.com"

Everything is about competition nowadays, previously I've just mentioned about AT&T's new Pogo web browser. Now it's Yahoo turn to fight back the ever growing dominance of Gmail, where more people are migrating from the traditional Yahoo Mail.

The move is geared to help people find a better e-mail address, said John Kremer, vice president of Yahoo Mail. "We want users to get the exact e-mail account they want so they stay with us for life," he said.

Because "
yourname@yahoo.com" is likely taken by now, a lot of people must resort to unpleasant and hard-to-remember addresses such as "yourname1988@yahoo.com." Yahoo wants to give people a new chance with a name they like.

Yahoo plans a "rolling thunder of announcements" around Yahoo Mail in the next six to eight months, he added. Some significant changes will include as a "smarter inbox," work to make Yahoo Mail fit better in today's world of social networking, and the opening of the mail platform, he added.

"What we believe here at Yahoo is all communication is eventually coming together," Kremer said. "You don't need to bounce out to a separate social communications site or a different social event site when most of those tools are really just communications. If it's built on the same address book and calendar information, you can see them coming together in a single, more productive, smarter inbox."

New Yahoo Messenger Beta for Vista

It doesn't matter whether Yahoo right now is in tail-chasing situation with Microsoft, but Yahoo still updates their Messenger into version 9 Beta. Stephen Shankland (NewsBlog) is reporting there has been tremendous new updates in this new Yahoo Messenger 9 Beta, they are:
  • Voice chat, from computer to computers & from phone to phones.
  • SMS to mobile phones.
  • A Windows Sidebar gadget version.
  • Integration with Yahoo address book.
  • Integration with Flickr.
  • Ability to view videos and photos sent as Web page links in the chat window.
  • Customizable skins.
  • Tabbed converstations.

Looks very solid new IM application to me, especially if it can make calls & send SMS to mobile phones. Interested? Get it at Yahoo download page

here.
