5 useful apps for your iPhone

Remember those 25 native apps that are urgently needed in the next generation of iPhone, that I've posted not long ago here at Palm Addict? Well, when I was digging up for unknown iPhone rumors; I've came across these 5 apps for iPhone which I think will become quite useful.

All of these apps require you to jail-broken your iPhone first, and I'll only point out each of its use and where to get it; or where to get more info about them. The rest of infos like installation into iPhone, you'll have to find out yourself. Why? Here's the punch-line: I don't own iPhone, and I even never use one either.

IntelliScreen
IntelliScreen is a web widget, that is very much alike Windows Mobile's Today Screen. Where you can have up to four small widgets at the same time, like you can see on the screenshot pictured right. Here are the features it provides:

  • View Calendar, Email, Text Messages, News, Sports, and Weather from your iPhone "Slide To Unlock" screen

  • Smooth scrolling across each item to quickly glimpse at your data

  • Auto-Checks Email when you view the unlock screen - no need to "Refresh" from Mail.app or wait 15 minutes

  • Go directly to the application of your choice with a "Swipe"

  • Precise International Weather (by Zip) provided by Weather Underground.com

  • News Feeds include Yahoo!, CNN, Fox News, and Reuters (more coming soon!)

  • ESPN Sports Feeds include MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL, NCAA Men's Football and NCAA Women's Basketball

  • Customizing your IntelliScreen is easy! Choose which content you want to view and where

  • Mail and Text Messages can be shown only if new items are available

Read on IntelliScreen FAQ page before you install it, and if you're eager to install it right away then grab the instructions at this link.

PBF ShowTime
Polar Bear Farm’s
ShowTime application brings video recording to the iPhone. Current features include:

  • 320 x 427 resolution

  • 6 frames per second capture rate

  • 5 second record limit on unlicensed version, unlimited for licensed users

  • Raw uncompressed file format playable using QuickTime player on either Mac or PC.

Note that at this stage ShowTime does not record audio. PBF is working to add this, along with realtime compression in future updates.

PBF Search
Polar Bear Farm’s
Search enables searching of your contacts on your iPhone, calendar event searching, as well as dialling up a date, and jumping straight to it in the calendar application. The app's feature will include searching these categories:

  • Contact searching

  • Calendar event searching

  • Dial-a-date

Lextech's surveillance app
Do you read the news on how a
stolen Mac laptop that is recovered using Back to My Mac feature? This app from Lextech, can't exactly do that and bring back a stolen iPhone to its owner's lap. But it can help to turn your iPhone into a surveillance device. Where it lets you control surveillance devices via your iPhone. As well as watching the action on the phone, the app also lets you control the cameras via its touchscreen. Source is from Gizmodo.

WalletCards
Now this one is not an app at all, instead it's only using your iPhone as a replacement of those many cards you must bring inside your bulky wallet everywhere you go. As what
Switched has reported: "Albert W. Alberts used his scanner to digitally replicate many of his membership cards. He then created an album called WalletCards on his iPhone and loaded the images of the cards in. Surprisingly, most establishments had no problem accepting the copied cards, and bar code scanners even read them."

And this is what Albert has said of his little clever use of iPhone: "The cards are stored as images in an iPhoto album that is synced with my iPhone through iTunes. Newly scanned cards are stored in the album and are automatically synced. When asked for the card I pull out my phone and open the "card" in full screen mode."

Pretty simple and neat; and the best is you don't need anything else but a scanner, a MacBook, iTunes and your iPhone. Care to try?

Good luck, and happy trying out them all! ;-D
